The Third Squad of the Mineola Police Department has reported the arrest of a woman on Sunday evening for driving while intoxicated (DWI) and endangering the welfare of a child. The incident took place at approximately 6:35 pm at the intersection of 1st Street and Wellington Road, prompting a swift response from officers.

According to the detectives' preliminary investigation, a white 2016 Toyota Corolla was heading eastbound on 1st Street when the driver attempted a left turn onto Wellington Road. However, the vehicle turned wide, colliding with the scaffolding on the northeast corner of the intersection, as well as a parked car that was occupied at the time.

Responding officers were quick to notice the visibly upset operator of the Toyota Corolla, who was accompanied by a 5-year-old girl. The driver, identified as Marysol Perez, 43, residing at 405 1st Street Apt. 4s in Mineola, displayed uncooperative behavior and even became belligerent with the officers.

Further investigation revealed that the young child was a passenger in the vehicle, leading the authorities to take immediate action. Perez was subsequently placed under arrest and is facing multiple charges, including Aggravated DWI under Leandra's Law, DWI, and Endangering the Welfare of a Child.

Thankfully, there were no reported injuries resulting from the accident. The child was safely released into the custody of her father, ensuring her well-being amid the unfortunate circumstances.

Marysol Perez is scheduled to be arraigned on Monday, May 29, 2023, at the First District Court located at 99 Main Street in Hempstead. The legal proceedings will shed further light on the charges brought against her, as the community awaits the court's decision on this distressing incident.
