The Suffolk County Police Department is investigating a horrific discovery made by a East Shoreham homeowner: a dead body that they discovered when uncovering their pool for the summer, which authorities believe may be a missing fugitive.
The resident discovered the body floating in the middle of their pool after stripping off the cover, which, according to Suffolk County Police Department Commissioner Kevin Catalina, may be Matthew Zoll, 23, a fugitive wanted for allegedly stabbing his 61-year-old father to death in their nearby Rocky Point home back in November 2024.
Zoll has been on the run ever since the incident.
While the exact amount of time the body was floating in the backyard pool is currently unknow, police believe it had been their for "a long time."
The unidentified corpse has been turned over to the Suffolk County medical examiner, who will attempt to confirm its identity and cause of death. Results of DNA analysis are currently pending.
