COASTAL FLOOD ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 8 AM THIS MORNING TO 2 PM EDT THIS AFTERNOON * WHAT...Coastal Flood Advisory for minor coastal flooding during the times of high tide this morning into early afternoon. * WHERE...Southwestern Suffolk County. * WHEN...For the Coastal Flood Advisory, from 8 AM to 2 PM EDT today. * IMPACTS...Flooding of lots, parks, and roads with only isolated road closures expected. * COASTAL FLOOD IMPACTS...Shallow flooding is expected in the most vulnerable locations near the waterfront and shoreline. Expect around 1 to 1 1/2 feet of inundation above ground level in low lying, vulnerable areas. Some roads and low lying property including parking lots, parks, lawns and homes/businesses with basements near the waterfront will experience shallow flooding. * SHORELINE IMPACTS...Breaking waves of 4 to 6 ft along the Atlantic ocean beachfront will likely result in beach erosion during the times of high tide, but dune impacts appear limited.

It seems as if 2012’s warm weather is playing tricks on us. April showers are said to bring May flowers, but April was full of sun and May has seen a good deal of dark clouds and rain in the last two weeks. This Mother’s Day weekend was the first weekend that saw two full days of sunshine. If this becomes a weekend trend then Long Island’s many beaches will be as packed this summer as they’ve ever been. Besides great swimming, surfing and sunbathing opportunities, many of the beaches on Long Island have parks, playgrounds, campsites, and nature and bike trails. Life lived on an Island means having more beach area then you’ll ever know what to do with, but makes summer planning easier with the following list of some of our most popular beach destinations.
