Metal Tire Reamer Melee: Undomiciled Man's Assault on New Cassel Victim Ends in Arrest - Severe Injuries Prompt First-Degree Assault Charge

Undomiciled man Pedro Hernandez, 42, faces first-degree assault charges after allegedly attacking a 44-year-old male victim with a metal tire reamer in New Cassel, resulting in severe injuries and a subsequent arrest by officers.

The Third Squad reports the arrest of an undomiciled man that occurred on Thursday, February 1, 2024 at 1:00 pm in New Cassel.
 
According to detectives, officers responded to the intersection of Magnolia Avenue and Prospect Avenue for a male victim, 44, that was involved in an altercation with Defendant Pedro Hernandez, 42. Defendant Hernandez struck the victim in the back of the head and punched him repeatedly in the face while holding a metal tire reamer. The victim attempted to block the defendant from striking him, resulting in a laceration to his left hand. The victim was struck on his nose, lip, and right eye causing a severe injury, multiple lacerations and substantial pain. Defendant Hernandez then fled the scene.
 
The male victim was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment of his injuries.
 
A short time later, officers located the defendant in a parking lot across the street from 851 Prospect Avenue and placed him into custody.
 
Defendant Pedro Hernandez is charged with Assault 1 st Degree and Assault 2 nd Degree. He will be arraigned on Friday, February 2, 2024 at First District Court, 99 Main Street, Hempstead.
