The National Weather Service in New York has issued a Winter Storm Warning for snow and blowing snow...which is in effect until 7 PM EST this evening. The Blizzard Warning has been cancelled. * Locations...Suffolk County in southeast New York...and New Haven...Middlesex and New London counties in southeast Connecticut. * Hazard types...periods of snow and blowing snow. * Accumulations...additional snow accumulations of 1 to 3 inches with total accumulations of 20 to 30 inches...with locally higher amounts. * Winds...north 20 to 25 mph with gusts up to 40 mph. * Visibilities...one mile or less at times. * Temperatures...in the lower 20s. * Timing...this afternoon into this evening. * Impacts...dangerous travel conditions continue due to snow... blowing snow and gusty winds. Some roads may be impassable. Precautionary/preparedness actions... A Blizzard Warning means severe winter weather conditions are expected or occurring. Falling and blowing snow with strong winds and poor visibilities will lead to whiteout conditions...making travel extremely dangerous. Do not travel. If you must travel... have a winter survival kit with you. If you get stranded...stay with your vehicle. A Winter Storm Warning for heavy snow means severe winter weather conditions are expected or occurring. Significant amounts of snow are forecast that will make travel dangerous. Only travel in an emergency. NCPD Marine Bureau Officers & Aviation Unit Rescue Stranded Duck Hunters in Oceanside

The Public Information Office reports the details of an Unusual Incident that occurred in Oceanside on Thursday, November 28, 2013 at 6:50 A.M.

Oceanside, NY - November 28th, 2013 - The Public Information Office reports the details of an Unusual Incident that occurred in Oceanside on Thursday, November 28, 2013 at 6:50 A.M.
 
According to police, four male duck hunters, ages 55, 28, 28 and 21 were in a boat near the marshes of Hewlett Harbor when it overturned. Members of the Fourth Precinct, Nassau County Police Department Marine Bureau and Nassau County Police Department Aviation Unit responded. The victims were removed from the water by civilian vessels. All four men were transported to an area hospital where they were treated for hypothermia.
 
The duck hunters weapons were recovered and secured and their boat towed by Marine Bureau.
