Mount Sinai, NY - November 21st, 2013 - Suffolk County Police today arrested a man for stealing batteries from boats stored in a Mount Sinai boat yard.
The owner of All Island Marine notified police that in early November, an unknown individual stole batteries from boats that were shrink-wrapped and stored at his business, located at 466 Route 25A, Mount Sinai.
An investigation by Sixth Precinct Crime Section officers revealed that Derek Pairan gained entry to numerous boats by cutting the shrink wrap protection. Once inside, he removed the batteries which he sold at a local scrap yard and received approximately $18 for each unit.
Pairan, 23, of 18 Margaret Drive, Coram, was arrested today at approximately 4 p.m. and charged with 7 counts of Petit Larceny and 4 counts of Criminal Mischief 4th Degree. He will be held overnight at the Sixth Precinct and is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on November 22.
A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
