Glen Cove, NY - November 14th, 2014 - Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano today announced that Garvies Point Museum and Preserve will be holding the Annual Thanksgiving Native American Feast on Saturday, November 22nd and Sunday, November 23rd from 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. This celebration of northeastern Native American culture has been held the weekend before Thanksgiving for more than 25 years.

Join our celebration of Northeastern Native American culture held annually the weekend before Thanksgiving. Participants will enjoy hands-on activities including pottery making, primitive fire-building and on-site cooking demonstrations with sampling, authentic Native American food displays with sampling, artifacts and tool technology, face painting with natural pigments, and use of the atlatl for spear throwing. Native American films will be shown hourly. Fun for families; all ages welcome. Special program fee of $5.00 per person; children under 5 are free with adult. No charge for current Friends members!

Participants can also take this opportunity to view the museum’s exhibition hall, which explores Long Island Native American culture and archaeology, as well as New York State and Long Island geology.

Garvies Point Museum and adjoining 62-acre preserve are located at 50 Barry Drive in Glen Cove. Regular admission to the museum is $3.00 for adults, $2.00 children 5-12 years.
