AIR QUALITY ALERT IN EFFECT FROM 11 AM THIS MORNING TO 11 PM EDT THIS EVENING The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation has issued an Air Quality Health Advisory for the following counties... Richmond...Kings...Queens...New York...Bronx...Westchester... Rockland...Nassau...and Suffolk. from 11 AM this morning to 11 PM EDT this evening. Air quality levels in outdoor air are predicted to be greater than an Air Quality Index value of 100 for the pollutant of Ground Level Ozone . The Air Quality Index...or AQI...was created as an easy way to correlate levels of different pollutants to one scale. The higher the AQI value...the greater the health concern. When pollution levels are elevated...the New York State Department of Health recommends that individuals consider limiting strenuous outdoor physical activity to reduce the risk of adverse health effects. People who may be especially sensitive to the effects of elevated levels of pollutants include the very young...and those with preexisting respiratory problems such as asthma or heart disease. Those with symptoms should consider consulting their personal physician. A toll free air quality hotline has been established so New York residents can stay informed on the air quality situation. Nassau County PD: Sunrise Mall Employee Arrested for Arson, Burglary

Arson/Bomb Squad detectives report the details of an arrest for arson and burglary that occurred in Massapequa on 06/30/13 at 7:22 P.M.

Massapequa, NY - October 30th, 2013 - Arson/Bomb Squad detectives report the details of an arrest for arson and burglary that occurred in Massapequa on 06/30/13 at 7:22 P.M.

According to detectives, Denzel Jones, 23, of 27 Oakley Ave., Massapequa, while employed as a stockperson for Forever 21 located at 1107 Sunrise Mall, secreted himself in the stockroom bathroom while the managers secured the store with an audible alarm, enclosed metal gate and waited until all employees left the store.  The defendant then removed an undisclosed amount of cash from the cash box and set fire to a rack of clothing, by undetermined means and fled the scene through a rear door, setting off a burglary alarm.  The fire was extinguished by the installed sprinkler system.  The Massapequa Fire Department responded and gained access to the store.

No injuries were reported.

On Tuesday, 10/29/13, Seventh Squad detectives arrested Jones in Staten Island.  He is being charged with Arson 2nd Degree, Burglary 3rd Degree, Reckless Endangerment 1st Degree and will be arraigned on Wednesday, 10/30/13 in First District Court, Hempstead.
