Massapequa, NY - October 30th, 2013 - Arson/Bomb Squad detectives report the details of an arrest for arson and burglary that occurred in Massapequa on 06/30/13 at 7:22 P.M.

According to detectives, Denzel Jones, 23, of 27 Oakley Ave., Massapequa, while employed as a stockperson for Forever 21 located at 1107 Sunrise Mall, secreted himself in the stockroom bathroom while the managers secured the store with an audible alarm, enclosed metal gate and waited until all employees left the store.  The defendant then removed an undisclosed amount of cash from the cash box and set fire to a rack of clothing, by undetermined means and fled the scene through a rear door, setting off a burglary alarm.  The fire was extinguished by the installed sprinkler system.  The Massapequa Fire Department responded and gained access to the store.

No injuries were reported.

On Tuesday, 10/29/13, Seventh Squad detectives arrested Jones in Staten Island.  He is being charged with Arson 2nd Degree, Burglary 3rd Degree, Reckless Endangerment 1st Degree and will be arraigned on Wednesday, 10/30/13 in First District Court, Hempstead.
