Uniondale, NY - October 14, 2016 - In recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness month, PSEG Long Island and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 1049 joined the American Cancer Society to make strides against breast cancer.  Hundreds of employees, friends and family will unite with thousands more Long Islanders at the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk on Long Island.

PSEG Long Island is a proud sponsor of the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk.  The company will be out in force on Long Island at Jones Beach State Park on October 16, 2016 and at Suffolk Community College, Eastern Campus on October 23, 2016.

“Breast cancer affects many of the families we serve, as well as our own employees and their loved ones,” said David Daly, president and COO, PSEG Long Island. “As a flagship sponsor of Making Strides, we are joining the fight against breast cancer and walking to raise money to support the research necessary to end this disease and help brighten lives on Long Island.”

“We are proud to partner with PSEG Long Island for this important cause,” said Don Daly, IBEW Local 1049 business manager. “Together, we are making more strides, providing greater support, and paving the way for a world without breast cancer.”

PSEG Long Island employees and all walk participants raise money that allows the American Cancer Society to fund innovative research; provide free information and support to all touched by breast cancer; and make available early detection and prevention programs.

“We are so proud of the relationship we have with PSEG Long Island. PSEG has been a flagship sponsor of the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk of Long Island for three years and they have made a huge impact by committing themselves, their employees, and customers in the American Cancer Society’s Mission to put an end to the pain and suffering caused by breast cancer,” said Katie Goepfrich, senior community manager, Making Strides Against Breast Cancer.  “PSEG Long Island is a role model to corporations as they unify themselves with issues that are important to us here on long Island, they have helped and continue to help educate the community on the importance of early detection, the services that the American Cancer Society provides to cancer survivors and their families as well as the importance of raising funds so that we can one day see an end to this disease that has taken so many lives.”

As an added benefit to all Making Strides participants at the Jones Beach State Park event, PSEG Long Island will distribute two free light-emitting diode (LED) bulbs to help brighten Long Island homes more efficiently.  If each PSEG Long Island household on Long Island and the Rockaways replaced two inefficient incandescent bulbs with LED bulbs that use up to 80 percent less energy annually, emissions would be reduced by the equivalent of taking 13,366 cars off the roads, reducing Long Island’s electrical demand by the equivalent of 9,282 homes and saving Long Island families 17.1 million dollars.  Customers will save approximately 10 dollars per year with each bulb.  For more information on PSEG Long Island’s energy efficiency programs, visit here.
