Mastic Beach, NY - October 5, 2014 - The Suffolk County SPCA will be holding a press conference on Monday October 6th at 11am at their offices in Hauppauge.  Chief Roy Gross will be discussing the rescue of a 30 inch, 3 year old American Alligator from a home in Mastic Beach. The alligator was dropped off to a rescue group and the group called the Suffolk County SPCA, who, in turn, contacted NYS Dept. of Environmental Conservation Police.  Both agencies responded and the SPCA confiscated the alligator.

Chief Gross said that there are amnesty days held throughout the year for people to drop off illegal reptiles and avoid criminal charges.  The last amnesty day netted 29 reptiles and two marmoset monkeys.  Photo ops of the alligator will be available.
