NCPD: Two Queens Men in Custody for Stealing from Multiple Roslyn Heights Neighborhood Vehicles

NCPD reports the arrests of (L to R) Mateo Leon, 20, and Syed Montasir Rahman, 18, both of Queens, for Grand Larceny that occurred on Sunday, September 17, in Roslyn Heights.

Roslyn Heights, NY - September 18, 2017 - The Third Squad reports the arrests of two Queens men for Grand Larceny that occurred on Sunday, September 17, 2017 at 2:09 a.m. in Roslyn Heights.
 
According to detectives, patrol officers responded to a 911 call for a larceny in progress on Shephard Lane. The victim, 58, observed an unknown male in her driveway. The victim observed the subject open the door of her husband’s 2017 Honda Accord. At this time, the complainant observed a second unknown male attempting to open her neighbor’s car doors. Upon police arrival, the two subjects were located in the vicinity of Amherst Rd. and Roslyn Rd. in Albertson.
 
Mateo Leon, 20, of Jamaica and Syed Montasir Rahman, 18, of Jamaica were arrested without incident. Leon’s 2016 Nissan Ultima was parked a short distance away.
 
An investigation revealed the subjects also entered the following vehicles on 9/17/17:
 
  • A 2015 Mercedes Benz on Shadetree Lane in Roslyn Heights. A wallet, U.S. passport and an undisclosed amount of U.S. currency was removed.
  • A 2014 Honda CRV on Shadetree Lane in Roslyn Heights. Multiple credit cards, headphones and an undisclosed amount of U.S. currency were removed.
  • A 2016 BMW on Argyle Rd. in Albertson. A pair of sunglasses and an undisclosed amount of U.S. currency was removed.
Further investigation revealed the subjects entered the following vehicles on 8/31/17:
 
  • A 2017 Jeep Compass on Shephard Lane in Roslyn Heights. A debit card and driver’s license were removed.
  • A 2014 BMW X5 on Shephard Lane in Roslyn Heights. An IPhone 5 was removed.
Defendant Leon’s 2016 Nissan Ultima was found to contain multiple items purchased with a stolen credit card on 9/16/17.
 
Defendant Leon is charged with three (3) counts of Grand Larceny 4th Degree, two (2) counts of Petit Larceny, Criminal Possession of Stolen Property 5th Degree, Identity Theft and Petit Larceny (Attempt).
 
Defendant Rahman is charged with two (2) counts of Grand Larceny 4th Degree, two (2) counts of Petit Larceny and Petit Larceny (Attempt).
 
Both defendants will be arraigned on Monday, September 18, 2017 at First District Court, Hempstead.
 
A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
