Police Sustain Injuries when Responding to 911 Call in Hewlett

Officers responded to a 911 call for an irate male causing a disturbance in Hewlett and become injured.

The Fourth Squad reports on the arrest of a Rockville Centre man for the Assault on a Police Officer that occurred on Wednesday, September 7, 2022 at 9:40 am in Hewlett.
 
According to Detectives, Fourth Precinct Officers responded to a 911 call for an irate male causing a disturbance at 1470 Hewlett Avenue. Officers attempted to restrain the male who refused verbal commands and became physically resistant.
 
Matthew Berman, 24, of 250 North Village Avenue was then placed under arrest. Officers sustained injuries during the course of the arrest as the defendant was violent and combative while resisting arrest. The Officer was transported to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries. The defendant was transported to a local hospital for a medical evaluation.
 
Defendant Berman is charged with Assault in the 2nd degree. He will be arraigned when medically practical.
