LI's Adorable Adoptables is a weekly column by Allison Matos, a lifelong Long Island resident who has been advocating animal adoption since 2012. Allison's weekly posts highlight local animals in need of adoption, and cover general animal welfare topics as well.

Thelma was picked up as a stray in August 2014, making her the Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter's LONGEST RESIDENT. Thelma is approximately 3 1/2 years old, 55 pounds and down right gorgeous. When she first came into the shelter she was very scared and unsure of herself, but has since become a volunteer favorite! She loves to play in the yard, is a great companion for a nice game of fetch, and offers smooches to anyone nearby.

But wait-Thelma even knows a ton of commands: sit, down, heel and touch! Thelma is a beautiful girl with the most soulful eyes and goofy floppy ears. Thelma gets out for parallel walks with other dogs, where she is calm and enjoys the companionship of other dogs.  Everyone loves Thelma, and you will too! Be a hero for Thelma and adopt her today! Please call for more information: 516-785-5220 or come visit her at: 3320 Beltagh Avenue, Wantagh NY 11793.

As always, thank you for reading and please remember to always adopt, never shop...pass it on!
