The Fifth Squad reports the arrest of two individuals for an incident that occurred on Sunday, August 13, 2023 at 1:50 pm in Valley Stream.
According to Detectives, Officers responded to a 911 call for shots fired into a home located on Garfield Avenue. Upon Police arrival, officers received a description of the subjects and observed multiple dispensed shell casing lying on the ground.
Subsequent to the investigation, the subjects were located inside the Smoke Shop on Ocean Avenue attempting to conceal the handgun. Defendants Scange Volant, 31, of 143 Magnolia Avenue, New Cassel and Imani Rochester, 32, of 5 Hausch Boulevard, Roosevelt were arrested without incident. Officers recovered a Springfield XD .40 caliber handgun secreted inside a black backpack inside the Smoke Shop.
Both Defendants Scange Volant and Imani Rochester are each charged with Criminal Possession of a Firearm, Criminal Possession of a Weapon 3rd Degree, two counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd Degree, and three counts of Reckless Endangerment 1st Degree.
Defendant Volant is additionally charged with Attempted Assault 1st Degree. Defendant Rochester is additionally charged with Tampering with Physical evidence. They will be arraigned on Monday, August 14, 2023 at First District Court 99 Main Street Hempstead.
