LI's Adorable Adoptables is a weekly column by Allison Matos, a lifelong Long Island resident who has been advocating animal adoption since 2012. Allison's weekly posts highlight local animals in need of adoption, and cover general animal welfare topics as well.

Sweet little Princess Buttercup arrived at the Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter as a stray after being found on someone's property with no food, no water and no shelter. Thankfully, she is OK, and ready for her forever home! Princess Buttercup is as sweet as her name describes her and would thrive in a home with a loving owner (just no other dogs in the house). Princess Buttercup is friendly with people, but is being recommended for a home with kids 17. Please call for more information: 516-785-5220 or come visit us at: 3320 Beltagh Avenue, Wantagh NY 11793.

Leia is a gorgeous Pitbull who was rescued as a stray a few years ago in Atlanta. Her rescuer did an amazing job providing love and care to Leia for the past few years, but unfortunately she is moving out of state and is unable to take this sweet girl with her. Leia is approximately 4 years old and is described as a fun loving lady who does very well with people (loves to give kisses and is a super excellent cuddler). Leia would do best as an only pet as she is just a bit anxious around other dogs. Leia is in excellent health, is up to date on all of her shots and is fixed. Now all she needs is a loving home to call her own. If you are interested in adopting Leia or would like more information, please contact her owner Jenna at jennagiangrande@gmail.com.

Sweet as a rose- meet Rosie! Rosie is a devoted Beagle who LOVES people. She lived with an elderly couple who unfortunately could no longer care for her and was surrendered to a Long Island town shelter. Scared and confused, Rosie refused to eat until she was placed in a foster home with a loving couple and their good-natured dog. Thanks to her foster family, Rosie is now ready to find her furever home. Rosie is about 7 years old, well mannered, "very very sweet" and even knows how to sit and give paw. Rosie gets along just find with children and other dogs, and would make a great family pet. For more information on adopting Rosie, check out her webpage.

I bet when George Burns once said "love is a lot like a backache, it doesn't show up on x-rays, but you know it's there", he was talking about falling in love with this sweet little kitty, appropriately named "George Burns". Funny man George Burns (the cat) is a handsome orange tabby, born on 5/7/16. He was found at the Huntington Art League and was thankfully rescued and lovingly fostered and vetted. Now this adorable cuddly boy is ready for his forever home. For more information on adopting George, check out his webpage.

As always, thank you for reading and please remember to always adopt- never shop...pass it on!
