Andoni Ugarte, 21, of New Hyde Park was arrested for DWI after hitting a wooden utility pole.

New Hyde Park, NY - July 11, 2016 - Third Squad detectives report a Serious Auto Accident involving an arrest for Driving While Intoxicated that occurred on Sunday, July 10, 2016 at 12:36 am in New Hyde Park.

According to detectives, Third Precinct officers responded to Jericho Turnpike and Cherry Lane for the report of an auto accident that just occurred. Upon arrival officers observed that a 2007 Toyota Camry had impacted a wooden utility pole.

The driver, Andoni Ugarte, 21, of New Hyde Park was found to be in an intoxicated condition and was suffering from multiple trauma injuries. She was placed into custody, transported to an area hospital for treatment and is currently listed in critical condition.

Ugarte is charged with Driving While Intoxicated and will be arraigned when practical.
