After sitting vacant for more than three years, the restaurant site at 4837 Nesconset Highway in Port Jefferson Station is getting a new life. But instead of burgers and beers like previous incarnations this new spot will feature pancakes as an IHOP.
Brookhaven Town Councilmember Jonathan Kornreich confirmed that the owners of IHOP are looking to develop a location at the empty building next to School of Rock, previously a Wahlburgers and before that it was Eldorado Southern Bar & Grill and Road Trip American Ale House.
According to others, the IHOP is “in the works” for that location, although in very early stages. The only sign is a dumpster currently sitting outside of the building.
Plans have not been filed with the Town of Brookhaven as of yet.
Over at the Port Jefferson Station/Terryville Civic Association they have some concerns about what will be done to convert the location into the famed breakfast restaurant, according to the organization’s president Ed Garboski.
He said that because the building is close to the area’s historical district they have reached out to the developers about what changes they plan to make to the facade.
The 2,500 square-foot retail site was built in 1993, according to commercial real estate website Loopnet, and there is parking available for 130 cars.
It is not known yet if the developers are the same as those who own the existing IHOP on Route 112 in Port Jefferson Station.
