Cops: Homeless Man Arrested After Running in North Lawrence Traffic, Spitting in Responding Officer's Face

The Fourth Squad reports the arrest of an undomiciled man for a Criminal Mischief that occurred on Thursday, April 11, 2024 at 1:10 p.m. in North Lawrence.
 
According to Detectives, Officers responded to the vicinity of 253-01 Rockaway Turnpike for a disturbance involving a man running in and out of traffic and causing safety concerns to motorists and pedestrians. Upon arrival, officers detained defendant Mark Berko, 30, for their safety as well as his own. Berko damaged Police property, spit in the officer’s face and threaten them. He was taken to a local area hospital for evaluation.
 
Defendant Berko is charged with Criminal Mischief 2nd Degree, Disorderly Conduct, and five counts of Harassment 2nd Degree. He will be arraigned when medically practical.
