Middle Island Woman Charged with Animal Neglect After Locking Dog and Several Cats in Vehicle with No Food or Water

On Saturday, April 6, 2024, Suffolk County SPCA detectives charged 41 year old Evannel Rakers of Middle Island with several counts of animal neglect.
 
Roy Gross, Chief of the Suffolk County SPCA said that on Saturday night SPCA detectives responded to a parking lot on Moreland Road in Commack after having received calls reporting several animals confined in a vehicle without food or water and that one deceased kitten was also in the vehicle.
 
SPCA detectives discovered the deceased kitten, two live kittens, two adult cats, and a Shih Tzu dog. The animal were taken to Veterinary Emergency Group.
 
Rakers is scheduled to appear in First District Court on April 26, 2024. She may face additional charges related to the deceased kitten pending the results of a necropsy report.
