Patchogue-Medford High School will be closed on Monday due to a "potential threat" that the school district received on Sunday, officials say.

According to Patchogue-Medford School District Schools Superintendent Dr. Donna Jones, the district received the message regarding the unsubstantiated threat in question on the evening of March 12, noting that it was only directed at Patchogue-Medford High School and no other schools in the district.

"While this threat is still unsubstantiated, out of an abundance of caution, and in consultation with law enforcement, we decided to close the high school campus," Jones said, who added that additional updates will be provided as more information becomes available.

The Suffolk County Police Department is conducting an investigation into the incident.
