New York, NY - March 13, 2018 - New York Attorney General Eric T. Schneiderman announced a federal court ruling requiring the Trump EPA to designate areas that have unhealthy levels of smog, following a lawsuit led by Attorney General Schneiderman and filed by a total of 15 Attorneys General in December. The court decision orders the EPA to comply with the Clean Air Act’s requirement by April 30, 2018 (in all areas except the San Antonio, Texas areas, for which EPA must comply shortly thereafter).
Attorney General Schneiderman released the following statement:
“Over 115 million Americans – including at least one in three New Yorkers – are breathing dangerous levels of smog. Yet over and over again, the Trump EPA has put polluters before everyday Americans.
We refused to let the Trump EPA get away with it – and today, the courts agreed, ordering the federal government to comply with the Clean Air Act.
We’ll keep a close eye on the EPA’s compliance with today’s order, and our coalition stands ready to act to protect our residents and our states from Washington’s toxic policies.”
