Legislator Anker Recognizes Eight Shoreham Eagle Scouts

Legislator Sarah Anker joined Boy Scout Troop 161 to commemorate the successes of their newly recognized 8 new Eagle Scouts.

Shoreham, NY - March 9th, 2016 - On Sunday, March 6th at St. Mark’s Church in Shoreham, Suffolk County Legislator Sarah Anker joined Boy Scout Troop 161 to commemorate the successes of their newly recognized Eagle Scouts: Nicholas A. Serdock, Nicholas S. Maritato, Erick R. Idtensohn, John B. McCarrick, Ryan M DiLisio, Ryan I. Field, Matthew J. Corona and Bryan J. Verbeeck.

Eagle Scout is the highest rank attainable by a Boy Scout, and only a small percentage of Boy Scouts are granted this rank after earning 21 merit badges and a lengthy review process.

“I would like to commend these young men for their dedication, skill, and commitment to community service,” said Legislator Anker. “May their actions serve as a model to their peers and inspire them to continue their adventures in scouting. I thank them for their local contributions and wish them the best in their future endeavors.”

In order to complete the requirements to become an Eagle Scout, each Boy Scout completed a community service project. Nicholas Serdock’s project improved Camp Pa-Qua-Tuck’s flag pole with through the addition of a concrete base, flowers and a lighting system. Nicholas Maritato created a covered shelter for a bread oven and wood storage container at Longwood Estates. Erick Idtensohn aided Saint Anthony’s Church of Rocky Point by repairing the playground.

John McCarrick restored the Victory Garden at Miller Avenue School by replacing the fence, removing weeds and building benches. Ryan DiLisio landscaped the front of Saint Mark’s RC Church in Shoreham. Ryan Field and Brian Verbeeck constructed benches and picnic tables for the Tesla Science Center in Shoreham. Matthew Corona added two stone stands with information about the attack at Pearl Harbor to the Pearl Harbor WWII Memorial at Calverton National Cemetery.
