Melville, NY - August 4, 2015 - On Saturday, July 18, Suffolk County Legislator Sarah Anker was the guest speaker for a Legislative Workshop at the Suffolk Region Parent Teacher Association’s (PTA) Suffolk-By-The-Sea Conference. She was joined by past Suffolk Region PTA Director Jackie Wilson as she discussed her role as Suffolk County’s Education Committee Chairwomen and the education initiatives she has sponsored.
Legislator Anker provided information on the following topics including: the creation of the SAVE hotline, a panic button system available to Suffolk County schools, colleges and preschools; the Jobs Opportunity Board, a committee Legislator Anker created to address young adult employment opportunities; drug awareness forums; the School Traffic Safety Committee which is addressing traffic safety concerns near schools; and her initiative in facilitating an upcoming Children’s Sports Safety Forum for the fall. In addition, she discussed recently passed legislation she sponsored pertaining to liquid nicotine that heightens awareness of the dangers of liquid nicotine by requiring warning signs in retail stores.
“I am honored to be presenting at the Suffolk Region PTA Conference. I appreciate the opportunity to encourage and inspire the attendees to become more involved in school projects and initiatives. Their involvement with school organizations will not only provide a positive impact on their child’s school experience, but will enhance their entire community,” said Legislator Anker.
As Chairwoman of the Suffolk County Education and Information Technology Committee, Legislator Anker, works with PTAs, Parent Teacher Organizations (PTO), school district administrators, School Board members, teachers, and residents to ensure the best educational opportunities for our students.
