Oakdale, NY - March 2nd, 2015 -Electronics Technician First Class Petty Officer Marmaduke Simms III, a native of Oakdale, N.Y., was selected for a national award as the Navy Recruiting Command Nuclear Field Coordinator of the Year for 2014.

Simms was selected out of 4,460 Navy recruiters across the country and around the world for his dedication to recruiting the best and brightest the nation has to offer.

Simms (WILL BE/WAS) presented with this award during a ceremony at the Navy Memorial in Washington, D.C., on Jan. 28. Simms transferred from Navy Recruiting District (NRD) St. Louis after a successful three-year tour. He got the news of his selection after checking on board his new command, the submarine USS West Virginia (SSBN 736).

“I was really surprised more than anything else,” he said. “I found out about this award upon return to port.”

Simms’s passion for recruiting STEM related fields is evident in his advice to other recruiters.
“Get into high end math and science classes in the high schools and colleges for presentations,” he said.

Rear Adm. Annie B. Andrews, commander, Navy Recruiting Command, said she was proud to work with Sailors like Simms.
