82 Year-Old Westbury Woman Loses $9,400 in Phone Scam; Police Investigating

According to Detectives, a woman received a phone call from a male she believed to be her grandson.

Third Squad detectives are investigating an “Elderly Scam” that occurred on Wednesday, February 22, 2023 at 12:00 am in Westbury.
 
According to Detectives, a female, 82, received a phone call from a male she believed to be her grandson. The male claimed he was arrested in Pennsylvania and asked for $9,400 dollars to pay for a lawyer. The victim agreed to meet and exchanged the money with an unknown male. The subject took the money and left on foot.
 
A short time later, the victim was contacted by her grandson who informed her that he was not arrested.
 
The subject is described as a male White/ Hispanic, mid-20’s with short curly black hair.
 
The Nassau County Police Department urges the community to be on alert and to remind vulnerable family members, friends and neighbors about potential scams or fraud.
