NCPD: Arrests Made in Connection with String of Burglaries Throughout Multiple Jurisdictions

The Fifth Squad reports the arrest of five individuals for an Attempted Burglary that occurred on Monday, January 29, 2024 at 9:45 a.m. in Elmont. 
 
According to Detectives, as part of a joint investigation with the New York Police Department, officers observed a black Nissan Rogue and a Mitsubishi Lancer both with Ohio registrations parked in the vicinity of South Kings Street. One of the vehicles was known to law enforcement for being involved in burglaries in multiple jurisdictions. Officers located Defendants: Carolina Diana Giraldo Franco, 29, of 37-47 108th Street, Queens, Luis Eduardo Giraldo Franco, 27, of 146-05 Reeves Avenue, Flushing, Jonathan Runza Vergara, 37, of 37-92 103rd Street, Corona, Yeison Enrique Beltran Avila, 21, undomiciled and Kevin Sebastian Baez Barragan, 24, also undomiciled. All are from Colombia and are members of the South American Theft Group.
 
Further investigation revealed the subjects were in possession of a Wi-Fi signal scrambler, portable radios, crowbars and various other burglar tools. All five defendants were placed under arrest without incident. No injuries were reported.
 
All five defendants are charged with Attempted Burglary 2nd Degree, Possession of Burglars tools, Criminal Tampering 1st Degree and Attempted Conspiracy 4th Degree.  Defendant Beltran Avila is additionally charged with Burglary 2nd degree from a previous incident. They will be arraigned on Tuesday, January 30, 2024 at First District Court, located at 99 Main Street, Hempstead.
