On Monday morning a Medford man was found driving on the wrong side of the Long Island Expressway at around 2:35 a.m. Suffolk County police were finally able to apprehend the driver after he drove past five exits.

Officers say Steven Brill, 51, of Daremy Circle in Medford, began at Exit 64. Once he was on the expressway, authorities received several calls claiming Brill’s Honda Civic entered the westbound HOV lane travelling eastbound. Two officers were dispatched to catch him following the calls.

Sargent Baranek approached Brill on the eastbound lane, while Officer Collier drove westbound. The two finally caught up to him between exits 59 and 58. Once pulled over, the Medford man was arrested and charged with Driving While Intoxicated and Reckless Driving. Nobody was hurt during the joy ride and Brill was taken in without incident.

Brill was held at the Sixth Precinct until his arraignment on Monday at the First District Court in Central Islip.
