PSEG Long Island has issued the following Storm Update for Wednesday, January 10:

  • PSEG Long Island has made progress restoring customers after strong winds and heavy rain caused scattered power outages throughout PSEG Long Island’s service area.
  • As of noon, PSEG Long Island has restored power to more than 19,400 customers since 4 PM Tuesday.
  • PSEG Long Island is reporting 4,636 of its approximately 1.2 million customers are currently without service.
  • We expect the majority of customers will be restored by the end of the day.
  • While the brunt of the storm has passed the service area, strong winds are forecast throughout the day. We expect to continue to experience additional outages.
  • All PSEG Long Island employees have mobilized to support the restoration efforts, including more than 900 line workers, tree trimmers, surveyors and other field personnel.
  • In addition, more than 720 contractors from Long Island, Florida, Illinois, Michigan, New Jersey, Ohio, West Virginia and Indiana are on site to address outages.
  • PSEG Long Island tree crews and contractors are in the process of addressing 78 downed trees and 28 fallen limbs.
  • PSEG Long Island recognizes that being without power for any length of time is a hardship and appreciates customers’ patience and understanding as crews work to restore electric service.

Customer Safety:

  • Downed wires should always be considered “live.” Please stay as far away as possible from them, and do not drive over or stand near them. To report a downed wire, call PSEG Long Island’s 24-hour Electric Service number at 800-490-0075 or call 911.
  • Electric current passes easily through water. If you encounter a pool of standing water, stop, back up and choose another path.
  • Never use a generator or any gasoline-powered engine inside your home, basement, or garage or less than 20 feet from any window, door, or vent. Use an extension cord that is more than 20 feet long to keep the generator at a safe distance.
