Weather Alert

"Special Statement" The combination of increasing surface moisture, mainly clear skies and light to calm winds has resulted in the formation of fog across the area. Visibilities are generally ranging between 1/2 mile and 1 1/2 mile, although there is locally dense fog reducing visibilities to 1/4 mile. These conditions are expected to continue through the early morning. Motorists are advised to use caution while driving as rapid changes in visibility are possible. Reduce speed and use low beam headlights. -- Monday Oct.23 17,05:46 AM

LI's Adorable Adoptables is a weekly column by Allison Matos, a lifelong Long Island resident who has been advocating animal adoption since 2012. Allison's weekly posts highlight local animals in need of adoption, and cover general animal welfare topics as well.

One of the sweetest and most loving dogs awaits her forever home at the Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter.   Kayla is a 3.5 year old gal who longs for a new family.  Kayla is described as very sweet, loves to make human and doggy friends wherever she goes, and her tinier size makes her a great travel companion.  If that’s not enough to make you want to adopt her right this second, she has gone for off-site training and has really developed some major skills- how’s walking perfectly on a leash sound to you?  If you are interested in adopting Kayla, contact the Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter at here, on Facebook, and on Instagram.

Available at Last Hope Animal Shelter, you can meet Quinn.  This Kentucky red hound is looking for his forever home.  Quinn is mighty sweet, mighty young and mighty handsome. He's a medium size dog, 1.5 years old, and found as a stray by an overcrowded Kentucky shelter. Look into those adorable puppy eyes and try not to fall in love, I dare you.  For more information, contact Last Hope here.

Don’t worry cat lovers- I have you covered.  Check out Last Hope’s Adult Cat of the weekend- Hal!  Hal is a handsome boy that was abandoned in an apartment complex and left to fend for himself. Hungry and frightened, he was trapped by a Last Hope volunteer and was so happy to have been rescued. Now after being vetted and home fostered, Hal is ready to find his Forever home. He is laid back and affectionate and will make some lucky person an AWESOME companion! Please visit and give Hal the chance he has been waiting for! His estimated dated of birth is February 2012.  For more info, check out Hal’s webpage here.

Please read about Walker, Flamingo, and Happy- all available through Sweetest Dog Rescue.  Please send them a message on Facebook or write an email.

Walker is a 1 year old female pit/corgi mix.  Walker is currently in foster care, living with 3 children ranging from 7 to 15, and 4 other dogs.  Walker is doing great, and is adored by all, but Walker is ready for her own home, and would love to be adopted today.  Please consider making this sweet gal your new best friend.

Flamingo is a gorgeous 3 month old female hound mix.  She is the shyest girl in the world and needs someone with a whole lot of love and patience to show her the good life.  If you already own a dog, Flamingo would love to have a furry brother or sister as she loves the company of other pooches.  Why not open your heart and home to Flamingo today!

If you ask Sweetest Dog Rescue to point you in the direction of their most loving rescue, they would introduce you to Happy.  Happy is a beautiful 2-3 year old hound mix female who has been diagnosed with Mega Esophagus (a condition in which the muscles of the esophagus lose their toe and are no longer able to propel food into the stomach).  Despite her disability, Happy is happy- and would love to bring love and sunshine into your life.  To adopt this true rescue, contact Sweetest Dog Rescue today!
