An animal shelter in Huntington called Little Shelter was damaged from a storm that happened recently. On wednesday night, a lightning bolt struck the area right behind the animal shelter. Although none of the animals nor workers were hurt, they are asking for help in repairing the shelter. A tree was struck and left with a huge mark that covers most of the tree trunk’s length. In addition, a memorial fountain that had been at the shelter for almost 20 years was damaged.

To make the damage even worse, the electricity isn’t working fully, and the air conditioning and phones aren’t working at all. During this extremely stressful and unfortunate event, the shelter is asking for donations in order to fix all the damages as soon as possible. This shelter has been very important in Long Island being open for 92 years, all to help the animals.

Not only are the workers suffering due to no electricity in the heat, but the animals are also suffering with the extreme heat conditions at the moment. The shelter is trying to combat this heat by putting ice cubes in the animals’ water in hopes of helping them cool off. Also, the shelter has added portable air conditioners for both their workers and animals to keep everyone safe in this summer heat.
