Montauk, NY - Star Island Yacht Club will hold its 19th Annual Mako/Thresher Mania Tournament on August 5-6. The tournament will run from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. both days, with the Captain's Meeting being held August 4 at 7:30 p.m.

The tournament will hand out $10,000 in cash prizes for the three heaviest thresher sharks caught and the three heaviest mako sharks caught. Custom trophies and other prizes will be given out as well.

Last year, a total of 300 anglers participated in the tournament with over $150,000 in cash prizes being given out. Ray Keyes aboard Captain Tom Brown's "Rigger" took home $2,500 for their 110-lb. mako. Steve Sapzenga took second with a 109-lb. mako he caught aboard Capt. Glen Kapoosuzian's "Reel Games." Jay Herbert aboard his boat "Reel Steel" came in third with a mako weighing in at 102 lbs. Steve Laurino aboard Capt. John Steadman's "Main Squeeze" brought home the heaviest thresher at 154 lbs.

The entry fee is $600 per boat. For those sports fishermen who would like to compete but do not own a boat, the Star Island Yacht Club Charter Boat fishing fleet is available for hire for one or both days.
