Helping Long Islanders in need is as easy as going to your mailbox. The 31st Annual Letter Carriers’ Stamp Out Hunger® Food Drive will take place on Saturday, May 13. To participate, simply put a non-perishable food donation in a bag by your mailbox before your regularly scheduled mail delivery. Your USPS mail carrier will do the rest. All food collected in Nassau and Suffolk counties will benefit Island Harvest Food Bank, a leading hunger-relief organization with a mission to end hunger and reduce food waste on Long Island. The donations will provide much needed supplemental food support to more than 300,000 Long Islanders who face hunger and food insecurity, including nearly one-third who are children.

Some of the most needed items include canned goods, cereal, pasta, rice, boxed juices, nuts, seeds, peanut butter, and shelf-stable milk. (No glass containers) Personal care items such as toothpaste, soap, shampoo, deodorant, feminine hygiene products, toilet paper, and disposable diapers will also be accepted. All goods donated on Long Island will help replenish Island Harvest’s network of food pantries, soup kitchens, and other emergency feeding programs in communities throughout Long Island.

The Stamp Out Hunger® Food Drive is the country's largest one-day food drive, providing residents with an easy way to donate food to those in need. First held in 1993, the food drive helps feed millions of Americans across the country. In 2019, the last year that Island Harvest participated, the drive resulted in the distribution of more than 521,000 pounds of food supplementing over 434,000 meals on Long Island.
