In preparation for the 2012 coding changes, ISASS has created the Coding Task Force Committee. These impending changes will have a great impact on the reimbursement spine surgeons will receive for the performance of certain surgeries. The Committee was created so there would be balanced voice for the surgeons to speak to about these upcoming coding changes. Spine surgeons have already begun expressing concerns that their voices weren't being heard with regard to these proposed changes and its potential impact. Additionally, this Task Force will direct society advocacy efforts towards commercial payers and technology assessment forums, many of which inform coverage determinations and access to medically necessary spinal surgeries.
