Nothing is more beautiful than a tree decorated with ornaments and lights for Christmas. Some people have trees at home, but now tree lightings have become public events. What a better way to bring family and community together during the holiday season than with a public tree lighting.

Why have a tree for Christmas? The reasons stem back to what the tree symbolizes: eternal life. For whatever reason, the Christmas tree has become a centerpiece in many homes during the Christmas holiday. Originally decorated with fruits and nuts, it is now decorated with fun and meaningful ornaments and lights.

Most Long Islanders and New Yorkers think of Rockefeller Center's tree lighting, which is on December 4th. While that is a wonderful tree lighting, it is very difficult to get into Manhattan for that event. Why not try a local tree lighting event instead?
