SCPD arrested Dayvonte Booker of Shirley, 21, for driving while ability impaired.

Shirley, NY - December 24, 2018 - Suffolk County Police arrested a man for driving while ability impaired following a motor vehicle crash that critically injured a passenger in his vehicle in Shirley on Sunday, December 23. 
 
Dayvonte Booker was driving a 2007 Acura southbound on River Road when he struck a tree at approximately 2:40 p.m. Kaneya Giles, 18, of Mastic Beach, a passenger in Booker’s car was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital in critical condition. Booker was not injured. The vehicle was impounded for a safety check.
 
Seventh Squad detectives charged Booker, 21, of Shirley with Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs. He will be held overnight at the 7th Precinct, and is scheduled for arraignment at First District Court in Central Islip on December 24.
 
A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
