Lisa Ferkovich is blamed for scamming a North Babylon man for $500,000. In the past she is said to have gone by Ruby Mitchell, Lisa Sideris, and Lisa Brown.
A woman is set to be arraigned on Monday for allegedly stealing $500,000 from an elderly man in North Babylon. Suffolk County police say Lisa Ferkovich is a part of a group called the “Travelers.” They are said to be based out of Maryland.
"The current indictment alleges crimes committed by the defendant when she befriended an 83 year old man in a North Babylon Supermarket this past summer and gained his trust," Suffolk County District Attorney Thomas Spota was quoted as saying in an ABC News article. "Our investigation found evidence she drained his bank accounts, accessed his mutual fund holdings, and rolled up $35,000 in bills using his credit cards."
The con-woman was charged with ID theft in a similar crime when she coerced an 80-year-old man to buy her three new cars -one of which included a Mercedes. She met the North Babylon man while free on bond from this particular case.
"She was free on bond in that case when she met the North Babylon man in the grocery store this past July,"Spota said. "Using different identities, she has scammed as many as four elderly men, possibly more, over the past 2 years in the New York metropolitan area, including New York County."
The multiple identities Ferkovich is said to have gone by is Ruby Mitchell, Lisa Sideris, and Lisa Brown. She has also used four different birthdays but is actually believed to be 47-years-old.
She was arrested on November 27th at her current residence in Bay Shore. Ferkovich is charged with Grand Larceny in the Third Degree as a Hate Crime and currently held without bail in the Suffolk County Jail.
