Doggone it, the Town of Hempstead has done it again! Supervisor Don Clavin and Town Clerk Kate Murray have announced another online initiative that allows residents to apply for and renew dog licenses via the Town of Hempstead website, saving residents time and making the process more convenient. Today at the town’s largest dog park at Newbridge Road Park in Bellmore, Supervisor Clavin and Town Clerk Murray – along with Councilman Chris Carini and neighborhood canines – provided details on the program, which incorporates new signage at town dog parks that allow residents to scan a QR code to update dog licenses while their pups frolic with their four-legged friends.

Town officials are confident this effort will encourage residents who may not have their canine’s license up to date to take advantage of the quick and convenient option, which can also help to identify a lost dog and/or determine if he/she has a rabies vaccination in the event of a bite incident.

“The hardworking residents of Hempstead Town have so much going on in their day-to-day lives, that renewing a dog license may not be at the forefront of one’s mind. This new online dog licensing program makes it quick and easy for residents to check it off their to-do list, as the process can be done from your home, on a lunch break, or even from one of our beautiful town dog parks!” stated Town Clerk Murray. “We also remind residents that licensing their dog is required by New York State law and must be renewed annually, not to mention it can help you find your lost pet in the event of an emergency.”

“Town Clerk Kate Murray has been a pioneer in adapting many of the town’s programs and services to incorporate an online component, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic, to ensure that all residents have continuous access town government,” added Supervisor Clavin. “I am proud to join with her to announce this new online dog licensing program.”

Town Clerk Murray has unveiled similar programs throughout America’s largest township. At town-maintained train station parking lots, the Town Clerk’s Office has placed signs with QR codes to allow residents to obtain and renew commuter parking permits. What’s more, the Town Clerk has added events such as Passport Day, which allows residents to apply for travel documents on a convenient weekend date.

To obtain or renew a dog license utilizing the online option, residents should visit hempsteadny.gov/447/dog-license or scan the QR code at a local dog park. Dog owners must first provide a current rabies vaccination certificate signed by the dog’s veterinarian, as well as a spay/neuter certificate (if applicable).

“The Town of Hempstead encourages all canine owners to utilize this great new online dog licensing program,” concluded Murray. “It’s a quick and easy step we can take to protect our beloved four-legged friends.”
