Port Jefferson, NY - November 14, 2016 - Rally for Unity, Rally for Humanity is a peaceful vigil that will show our community’s support for all segments of society including members of the LGBTQ community, Whites, Blacks, Latinos, Muslims, Jews, Christians and Women, as well as those who are economically disadvantaged.

Organized by local citizens including Margot Garant (Mayor of Port Jefferson), Cindy Morris, Leza DiBella and Mary Beth Baxter, this event is the first event in Suffolk County being held post-election that is not directly associated with a specific political party or cause.  Organizers are expecting approximately 1500 people to attend the event on Sunday.

Community Organizer, Cindy Morris, a local Suffolk County resident, explains, “It became immediately apparent how personal the election results are for everyone.  In response to the fear and hurt felt by so many, Suffolk County needed the opportunity to show everyone our support and commitment to ensuring their freedoms, and to reassure them that they have a safe space here.”
