Roosevelt Man Arrested for Mugging Local Woman

Roosevelt, NY - November 11th, 2014 - First Squad detectives report the arrest of a Roosevelt man for a Robbery that occurred on Thursday, July 3, 2014 at 3:15 pm in Roosevelt.

According to detectives, after exiting a liquor store on Nassau Road, the victim, a 29 year old female, was approached by a male black subject who was riding towards her on his bicycle. The subject reached out as he rode by and grabbed the victim’s neck chain. The chain, which did not immediately break free, caused both the victim and the subject to fall to the ground. After gaining control of the chain, the subject got back on his bicycle and fled the scene.

After reporting the incident to police, the victim returned to her home and found a fingernail that was lodged in her clothing. The fingernail, which was retrieved by detectives, was sent for DNA processing.

A positive DNA identification was made on a Christopher Thomas, 46, of W. Fulton Avenue. The victim was then shown a photo array and she identified Thomas as the person who committed the Robbery.

On Monday, November 10, 2014, Thomas was located and placed under arrest without incident. He is charged with Robbery 2nd Degree and will be arraigned in First District Court, Hempstead on 11/11/2014.
