Hempstead Man in Custody After Stealing iPad from Roosevelt Field Mall Shopper

Third Squad Detective report the arrest of a Hempstead man for a Robbery that occurred on Monday, November 7, 2022 at 2:05 pm in E. Garden City.
 
According to detectives, the female victim, 63, was leaving the Apple Store located inside Roosevelt Field Mall located at 630 Old Country Road. An unknown male came from behind the victim and grabbed a shopping bag containing an Apple iPad. She lost her balance after the property was forcibly removed. The subject fled on foot exiting the mall.
 
Responding officers canvassed the area and located the subject in the vicinity of Oak Street and Westbury Boulevard. Officers approached the subject who threw the proceeds and fled on foot. Officers recovered the property and continued their pursuit. Officers were waved down by a male, 76, who notified them about an unknown male entering his Warren Street residence. 
 
Officers entered the residence and Lloyd McKinley, 22, of 14 Hoff Court, was arrested without incident.
 
An officer suffered injuries to his legs while pursuing the subject. He was transported to an area hospital for treatment and evaluation. 
 
Defendant McKinley is charged with Robbery 3rd Degree, Assault 2nd Degree and Burglary 2nd Degree. He will be arraigned on Tuesday, November 8, 2022 at First District Court, Hempstead.
