Rite Aid Pharmacy Chain Shuttering 14 Long Island Stores Amid Bankruptcy Proceedings

In an effort to reduce their retail footprint, 154 Rite Aid stores out of the chain's 2,100 locations across the country will be shuttered, the chain said, including 14 on Long Island.

Philadelphia-based Rite-Aid announced this week a list of stores that the pharmacy chain will be closing nationwide amid Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings brought on by mounting debt and legal threats, reports say.
 
In an effort to reduce their retail footprint, 154 Rite Aid stores out of the chain's 2,100 locations across the country will be shuttered, the chain said, including 14 on Long Island. 
 
14 Long Island locations that will be - or have already been - closed include:

  • 3131 Hempstead Turnpike, Levittown
  • 3199 Long Beach Road, Oceanside
  • 198 West Merrick Road, Valley Stream
  • 836 Sunrise Highway, Bay Shore
  • 2784 Sunrise Highway, Bellmore
  • 901 Merrick Road, Copiague
  • 577 Larkfield Road, East Northport
  • 695 East Jericho Turnpike, Huntington Station
  • 700-43 Patchogue-Yaphank Road, Medford
  • 273 Pine Hollow Road, Oyster Bay
  • 397 Sunrise Highway, West Patchogue
  • 593 Old Town Road, Port Jeff Station
  • 65 Route 111, Smithtown
Rite-Aid's woes stem from a whopping $3 billion in debt, in addition to nearly one thousands federal lawsuits filed against the pharmacy amid allegations that they contributed to the ongoing opioid epidemic by over-supplying the potentially addictive painkillers.
