East Meadow Man Arrested for Hitting Pair of Pedestrians, Fleeing Scene

East Meadow, NY - October 6th, 2014 - Homicide Squad detectives report the arrest of an East Meadow man for an incident that occurred on October 5, 2014 at 7:06 pm in East Meadow.

According to detectives, while traveling westbound on Hempstead Turnpike at the intersection of East Meadow Avenue, Oliver Blakeman, 80, of Front Street, while driving his 2005 Dodge Caravan, struck a homeless male and a homeless female who were crossing Hempstead Turnpike heading towards Eisenhower Park.  Blakeman, who left the scene of the accident, was located on Merrick Avenue and Webster Street with his vehicle and was placed under arrest without incident.

The victims, who both suffered multiple trauma injuries, were transported to an area hospital where they were admitted for treatment. Both are listed in serious condition.

Blakeman, who is charged with Leaving the Scene of an Accident With Serious Physical Injury, was released on an appearance ticket and is due in First District Court, Hempstead on 10/07/2014. His vehicle was impounded for brake and safety checks.
