NCPD: Three Arrests Announced in Connection with New Cassel Knife Assault

NCPD reports the arrest of Fernando Mejia of New Cassel, 17, Fredy Hernandez of Westbury, 24, Roman Live of New Cassel, 26, for Assault that occurred on Friday, August 18.

New Cassel, NY - September 28, 2017 - The Major Case Bureau reports the arrest of three (3) males for Assault that occurred on Friday, August 18, 2017 at 12:05 am in New Cassel.
 
According to detectives, a female and male victim, both 17, were walking on Rail Road Avenue, when a dark colored four (4) door vehicle approached them. Three male subjects exited the vehicle and started screaming at the victims. One subject was holding and waving a knife. The female victim raised her left hand to protect herself from the knife and was struck with the blade causing a laceration on her palm. The subjects fled the scene.
 
The victim was removed to an area hospital for treatment.
 
On September 12, 2017 the male victim was approached by a group of males including the three subjects from the previous incident. The victim was questioned about filing a police report. A male subject punched the victim in the face, causing him to become unconscious and suffer a large laceration to his lip. The victim was removed to an area hospital for treatment.
 
A subsequent investigation led to the arrest of the following defendants:
 
  • Roman Live, 26, of New Cassel was arrested on 09/13/17.
  • Fernando Mejia, 17, of New Cassel was arrested on 09/20/17.
  • Fredy Hernandez, 24, of Westbury was arrested on 09/27/17.
Defendants Mejia and Hernandez are charged with Assault 2nd degree and two (2) counts of Menacing 2nd degree.  Defendant Live has been additionally charged with Tampering with a witness 2nd degree, Criminal Possession with a Weapon 3rd degree and Assault 3rd degree.  Defendants Live and Mejia were previously arraigned. Hernandez were arraigned on Thursday, September 28, 2017 at First District Court, Hempstead.
 
A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
