A plan is in the works to add electrical vehicle charging stations to Station Plaza at 5145 Nesconset Highway in Port Jefferson Station. The shopping center is home to Staples, Shoprite and TJ Maxx among other retailers.

The company that is proposing to install the EV charging stations is Electrify America, a company that says it runs a network of EV charging stations across the United States, which charges vehicles in as little as 30 minutes.

An Electrify America spokespoerson at the Brookhaven Town Board meeting on September 12th said that newer vehicles can get an 80% charge in as little as 20 minutes.

The four EV charging stations would be placed on the southeastern portion of the parking lot near Canal Road, closest to TJ Maxx and near an egress point from the parking lot, according to plans submitted to Brookhaven Town.

The project would add an additional parking space to the lot.

The proposal, which includes plans to install four charging stations with associated equipment, was unanimously approved at the September 12th Brookhaven Town Planning Board meeting.
