New York Blood Center (NYBC) will be hosting a blood drive at the Farmingville Fire Department from 9:00am to 3:00pm in loving memory of Nick Puzio who passed away earlier this year in a car accident at the age of twenty-five. The blood drive will be sponsored by NYS Senator Dean Murray, NYS Assemblyman Doug Smith, Suffolk County Legislator Nick Carracappa and Brookhaven Town Councilman Neil Manzella.

Nick was hit by two hit-and-run drivers and was rushed to the hospital in serious condition. He received blood transfusions as the doctors tried to save his life, but his injuries were too severe and he passed away just a few hours later.

Nick was an extremely loving and generous person who would do anything for his friends, family and community. Nick’s friends and family are encouraging the community to honor his memory by donating blood and saving a life so that blood is available for those who may need it. There will be a press conference at 10:00am with Nick’s family, NYBC representatives and local elected officials where they will speak about Nick’s life and the importance of donating blood.

Blood donors can give every 56 days, and platelet donors can give twice per month. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recently lifted eligibility restrictions for individuals who lived in Europe during certain periods of time.To view current eligibility guidelines, visit nybc.org or call 800.688.0900.
