In recent weeks, the Nassau County Legislature has approved a pair of items that will deliver hundreds of thousands of dollars in resources for traffic safety improvements to Bayville Road.

The Legislature’s Rules committee voted unanimously to approve a $1,081,360 one-year, “on-call” traffic engineering services contract with Greenman-Pederson, Inc., and of those funds, $336,799.50 will be dedicated to preparing design plans for the Bayville Road/Horse Hollow Road Complete Streets Project near Locust Valley High School. Contracts are enacted upon approval by the Rules committee, and no further legislative action is required.

Later, the full Legislature voted unanimously to approve amendments to the 2023-2026 capital budget and authorize $350,000 in bonding for the first phase of Bayville Road traffic calming and streetscape improvements.

“Protecting the safety of our students must always be our highest priority, and these infrastructure investments in Bayville Road will go a long way toward achieving that goal for the entire Locust Valley community,” Legislator Joshua Lafazan (D – Woodbury), whose district includes the stretch of Bayville Road impacted by this project, said. “I thank my colleagues for their unanimous, bipartisan support for this crucial project.”
