Off-Duty NYPD Officer Arrested for Taking Out Gun During Road Rage Incident in Selden

An off-duty NYPD officer has been charged in an alleged road-rage incident in Selden, Long Island at approximately 11: 20 a.m. Saturday, July 23.

An off-duty NYPD officer has been charged in an alleged road-rage incident in Selden, Long Island at approximately 11: 20 a.m. Saturday, July 23.

Douglas Debonet, age 32, of Selden, was arrested after he exited his car at and broke a side view mirror on another individual's vehicle involved in the incident, said the Suffolk County Police.

According to the police, a few hours later, Debonet went to the driver’s home and was involved in an altercation with the driver’s father.

Suffolk County Police said Debonet displayed "a firearm," during the argument.

Debonet was then arrested and charged with criminal mischief and menacing. He was arraigned on Monday, July 25, and released without bail. He is due back in court on Friday, July 29.

Officials with the NYPD said he has been suspended without pay pending the outcome of the case.
