Suffolk County Police arrested a woman for driving while intoxicated after she left the scene of a crash involving a school bus in Mastic and was apprehended by a Good Samaritan a short time later.

Luz Maria Fuentes was driving a 2004 Toyota Siena on Mastic Road, near Mastic Boulevard, when her vehicle struck the rear of a mini school bus with three children and two adults on board. Fuentes fled and, a short time later, her vehicle struck a trailer that was attached to a pickup truck traveling on Mastic Road and fled.

A Good Samaritan followed Fuentes to the parking lot of Island Cinemas, located at 1708 Montauk Highway, and confronted her. Fuentes punched the man in the face.

Seventh Precinct officers responded and charged Fuentes, 36, of Mastic, with Driving While Intoxicated, Harassment and two counts of Leaving the Scene. She was arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip.

A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
