Franklin Square, NY - July 3, 2018 - The Major Case Bureau reports the arrest of an Oceanside man for Robbery that occurred on Friday, June 22, 2018 at 3:00 p.m. in Franklin Square.
According to Robbery Squad detectives, Nehemiah Bellamy, 28, drove a vehicle, occupied with a second subject, to the U.S. Post Office located at 867 Hempstead Turnpike. The defendant waited in the vehicle while the other subject entered the Post Office and requested a money order from the U.S. Postal employee at the counter. The victim, 38, opened the register drawer and the subject reached into the drawer grabbing an undisclosed amount of blank U.S. Postal money orders.
The victim attempted to stop the subject from taking the money orders and a struggle ensued. The subject was able to break free and exit the Post Office where he was met by the waiting vehicle, driven by Nehemiah Bellamy. Both subjects fled the scene with the proceeds.
An investigation led to the arrest of Nehemiah Bellamy on Friday, June 29, 2018 in Glen Head. The second subject has not yet been arrested.
During the investigation it was determined the defendant was involved in additional crimes that took place throughout Nassau County, which include the following:
- June 18, 2018 – Bethpage Federal Credit Union, 750 Old Country Road, Westbury. (Possession of a Forged Instrument)
- June 18, 2018 – Bethpage Federal Credit Union, 210 West Merrick Road, Freeport. (Possession of a Forged Instrument)
- June 20, 2018 – U.S. Post Office, 260 Elmont Road, Elmont. (Grand Larceny)
- June 29, 2018 – U.S. Post Office, 1245 Hewlett Plaza, Hewlett. (Petit Larceny)
Defendant Bellamy is charged with Robbery 3rd Degree, Five (5) counts of Possession of a Forged Instrument 2nd Degree, Grand Larceny 4th Degree and Petit Larceny. He will be arraigned on Saturday, June 30, 2018 in First District Court, Hempstead.
