Man Arrested, Charged After Stabbing Woman to Death at Belmont Racetrack, Police Report

NCPD reports the arrest of Jose Franco-Martinez, 53, in connection with a Homicide.

Elmont, NY - June 18, 2018 - The Homicide Squad reports that an arrest has been made in connection with a Homicide that occurred on Sunday, June 17, 2018 at 6:32 am in Elmont.
 
According to detectives, 911 received a call for an injured female at Belmont Racetrack at 2150 Hempstead Turnpike. NYRA (New York Racing Association) Security became alarmed when they observed a loose horse. Security investigated the rear barn area and discovered a victim, Maria Larin of Elmont, 51, with multiple stab wounds. The victim was transported by a NYRA ambulance to a local hospital and was pronounced deceased. 
 
Defendant Jose Franco-Martinez, 53, no known address, was placed into custody at the scene. The identity of the victim is being withheld pending family notification.
 
Franco-Martinez has been charged with Murder 2nd Degree and will be arraigned on Monday, June 18, 2018 at First District Court, 99 Main Street, Hempstead.
 
A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
